Who publishes

The News section is published by REID Consulting, a consulting engineering firm based in Cotonou since 2005, specialised in studies, monitoring and evaluation and results-based management training. It covers development in Benin and West Africa: finance, training, governance, climate, agriculture, monitoring and evaluation and entrepreneurship.

It is written for development practitioners: civil society organisations, local governments, public administrations, technical and financial partners, consultants.

How our articles are prepared

The REID Consulting newsroom prepares articles from official sources, using automated monitoring and verification tools. Every article goes through the same steps:

• Sources: institutions first (ECOWAS, WAEMU, BOAD, BCEAO, World Bank, United Nations agencies, ministries), then recognised media. Information that rests only on a rumour, an opinion piece or social media is not covered.
• Facts: every fact we keep is tied to the exact passage of the source that establishes it. Figures, names, dates and quotes are checked against the sources.
• Review: before publication, every sentence of the article, headline included, is checked against the sources. An article with a sentence the sources do not establish is not published.
• Writing: the article is written in our own words. A statement is only reproduced in quotation marks and attributed to its author.
• Transparency: the sources of each article are listed at the end with their links, and the authors of the original articles are credited when known.

Photos and videos

We first use photos published by the institution concerned, then freely licensed images (notably Wikimedia Commons), always credited. An image that does not show the event itself is presented as an illustration. Videos play from their original channel and are never copied.

Bylines

Articles prepared by the newsroom's monitoring carry the byline "Christ-loisele". An article written by a team member carries their name. Both commit REID Consulting.

Independence and interests

REID Consulting is a consulting firm. When an article concerns an assignment of the firm or of one of its partners, it says so explicitly. No article is sponsored or paid for by a third party.

Opportunities of the week

The Opportunities of the week page gathers notices collected every day from the official websites of donors and public buyers (notably the World Bank, UNDP, SIGMaP and ReliefWeb). We reproduce the title, the organisation, the country and the deadline, with the link to the notice. Only the official notice is authoritative.

Corrections

Found an error in an article? Write to info@reid-consulting.org with the article's address and the passage concerned. We check it against the sources and correct the article when the error is confirmed.
